When does Hellbreak come out?: October 31, 2026 is a launch event. ICv2 reported from Gen Con 2026 that the first set reaches stores in January 2027 and that the release date is being pushed to Q1 2027, which is why so many retail listings carry Q1 dates. UK and Ireland were given an October window via Asmodee. Full dated record on our timeline.
What monsters are in it?: Seven confirmed by name: Dracula, Jaws, the Bride of Frankenstein, the Wolf Man, Death Angels from A Quiet Place, Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th, and the Headless Horseman. Officially, Dawn of Terror is built around 7 unique characters and 10 mechanically unique monster cards. The license pool includes Universal’s horror catalog plus Blumhouse, AMC, and Lionsgate properties, and has already reached beyond that list more than once. Names like Michael Myers, M3gan, and Five Nights at Freddy’s are possible under Universal’s control but not announced. Our roster page tracks the tiers strictly.
How much does it cost to start playing?: $27. The Jaws vs Dracula starter contains two complete 50-card decks with an exclusive foil monster card each, and the rules, including a Quick Start Guide that is also downloadable as a standalone PDF in English, Spanish and French. Two people can play out of one box.
Is it kid-appropriate?: It is horror-movie iconography. There is no official age positioning we have seen beyond standard game ratings; look at the art and make your own call for your kids.
What are the booster pack odds?: Officially guaranteed per 13-card pack: 1 foil, 1 borderless, 1 rare or higher. The rarity ladder is published (Common, Uncommon, Rare, Legendary, Infamous, Special) but pull rates for any tier are not, and anyone quoting them before launch is guessing. How does the game actually play?: Two players, each building a deck around one double-sided monster card that starts Lurking and flips to Unleashed when you choose. You spend Blood to play cards, gated by Loyalty - matching aspect icons in your Vault - and win by grinding the opponent’s health stack to zero. How many cards are in the first set?: Launch press said roughly 250. Printed collector numbering puts the base set at 227, with higher numbers belonging to alternate-art and foil printings of base cards. We use 227 and will drop the hedging when an official spec sheet publishes.
Is Hellbreak going to last?: Unknown, and we will not pretend otherwise. New licensed TCGs fail more often than they succeed. The positive signs: a license pool that keeps growing past its own launch announcement, an experienced design studio, toy-scale distribution, a running weekly card-reveal cadence since July 2026, and demand strong enough that the launch was pushed to print more. The test is whether a second set and organized play arrive on schedule after the Q1 2027 retail release.
Where should I buy?: Hobby retailers have preorders live, some under MSRP. Our where-to-preorder page lists what we have actually checked and the ship-date traps. No Amazon listing has been verified, so there is no Amazon link on this site yet.
Can I build a deck here?: Yes, in the deck-builder, against every card we have transcribed. It enforces only the one construction rule Hellbreak has published and says plainly that deck size and copy limits are not published yet.
